羅馬皇子羅慕路斯（托馬斯·桑斯特ThomasSangster飾）的父親奧列斯特斯（伊恩·格雷IainGlen飾）被叛軍殺死，而羅慕路斯則被敵人軟禁在卡普里島之上。臨死前，奧列斯特斯將后事托付給將軍奧勒留（科林·費斯ColinFirth飾），叮囑他一定要救出兒子，讓羅馬帝國的王位回歸本宗。對皇帝忠心耿耿的奧勒留聯(lián)手埃塞俄比亞人巴蒂亞圖斯（儂索·阿諾斯NonsoAnozie飾）和安布羅斯紐斯（本·金斯利BenKingsley飾），組成了一只遠征的敢死隊。之后，驍勇善戰(zhàn)的女戰(zhàn)士瑪利亞（艾西瓦婭·雷AishwaryaRai飾）亦加入其中，一行人向卡普里島進發(fā)。在卡普里島，羅慕路斯和他的導師也在為了生存而尋找著最后一絲希望。
